COUNTRY GUITAR DVD I LESSONS

DVD Intro – in this DVD introduction to this series we discuss the coming lessons and the format for coming DVDs. We go over the topics to be covered throughout this series. We also discuss some of the guitar architects of this style as well as a brief history on the development of country music and the associated guitar tones. Guitar tuning is also discussed.

Easy Rhythms Hank Williams Style – In this lesson we teach simple country rhythms in the style of the great Hank Williams. You will learn all the chords as well as bass riff walk-ins that go in and out with the chords. These bass note walks are great devices that you will soon be blasting all over your playing. You will also learn what the very common 55-11 rhythm progression is all about. All chords are diagrammed out and the riffs, strum patterns, and rhythms are broken down and taught at regular and slow speeds – fun and fast learning in this killer lesson!

Johnny Cash Style Guitar – this section of the DVD is broken into three lessons:

1. Johnny Cash electric style lesson – in this lesson we teach the electric guitar style of Johnny Cash rhythm guitar. We teach how to get that bright country Johnny Cash electric tone. You will also learn about palm muting techniques when playing chords to help get the needed tones. Learn how to alternate bass notes within chords to get that cool movements within the chords. All these devices will help springboard your playing as you can blast these techniques across all your playing.

2. Johnny Cash rhythm trick – in this in this lesson we teach a unique technique using a dollar bill to get your acoustic guitar to sound like a snare drum. You can see this technique employed in early Johnny Cash videos and we teach how to get those rattle-snare sounds. You will learn all the strum patterns as well as the chord progressions, and away you go – experiment and get creative!

3. Johnny Cash rhythms Luther Perkins style – in this lesson we teach more country rhythms in the Johnny Cash style. This bass-note, muted electric rhythm style was provided by the great guitarist Luther Perkins. You will learn more alternating bass I-V-I note patterns and string arpeggiating patterns that you can add to your playing. We continue teaching more palm muting as well as learning rhythms in different positions on the neck.

Fast Country 2-Beat Rhythms – this section of the DVD is broken into two lessons:

1. Country walking bass-line rhythms – in this lesson we teach country rhythm with interspersed bass lines. These rhythms are also called fast country 2-beats. Learning these bass lines for the guitar will really infuse your playing with country tone and country goodness.

2. Alternating bass-line country rhythms – in this lesson we continue teaching country rhythm playing. Here we continue teaching the fast country 2-beat rhythms. In this lesson you will learn to walk the bass line up and down through each respective chord change in the common I-V-I country rhythm pattern. This device is used all the time in country rhythm playing.

Acoustic Fingerstyle Rhythm – in this lesson you will learn some acoustic fingerstyle country rhythm playing. By utilizing your fingers this style gives you a softer tone. You will also learn some interesting rhythms using all your fingers on your pick hand to get some interesting tones. In this lesson you will learn these devices with both open chords and bar chords.

Country Gear – in this lesson you will learn all about country gear and tone. Jeff Ross discusses the regional differences in guitar tones and how that influenced the country music sounds of the times. Topics discussed include the country "twang", the Fender Telecaster, pickups and pickup settings, amplifiers, effects, reverb, delay, compression, tremolo arms, and volume pedals.

COUNTRY GUITAR DVD II LESSONS

Acoustic Rhythm Devices – this section of the DVD is broken into two lessons:

1. Bluegrass rhythms & techniques lesson – in this lesson you will learn some standard bluegrass progressions. Learn all the chords and strumming patterns in this fun lesson. Learn to aim for the root notes when strumming for added effect as well as learn the chucking technique for added rhythmic spice. You will also learn a cool tag ending lick that is a lot of fun to play and can be used all the time when playing this style.

2. The Land of A7 devices lesson – in this lesson you will learn a killer device to add and embellish a basic blues progression. Learn some cool hammer-ons, pull-offs, and cool sounding string bends. Learn a whole set of little new chords to climb up to the top of the neck. These chord substitutions will really add spice and open up some creative pathways. Get creative and experiment with these new chords and changes and have fun with them!

Chickin Pickin – this section of the DVD is broken into two lessons:

1. Country chickin pickin lesson - in this lesson you will learn the killer chicken picking technique. These techniques are employed by countless guitarists across multiple musical genres, and not just country. This style of guitar has even influenced the modern rock and shred guitar players. Learn about the muting techniques and the various pick hand techniques to pick and pluck the strings and get that sputtering pop sounds. Then we incorporate the technique into licks that you will soon be blasting all over the neck chickin pickin style.

2. The Land of A7 devices lesson – in this lesson you will learn a killer device to add and embellish a basic blues progression. Learn some cool hammer-ons, pull-offs, and cool sounding string bends. Behind The Nut String Bending – this section of the DVD is broken into two lessons:

1. Behind the nut country bends part one – in this lesson you will learn a killer new technique that you don't see or hear taught very often. You will learn how to bend strings behind the nut to get some cool and unique sounds. Get some wild and crazy country sounds with this device and get creative with it. We go over what guitar works best for this technique and how to get used to this unique and different string bending process. Learn the technique as well as some cool licks.

2. Behind the nut country bends part two – in this lesson we continue with teaching the behind the nut string bending technique. Here we continue with a standard pedal steel country song with the country I-V-I intro. Learn the rest of the intro licks and techniques in this lesson. Here we also play the straight rhythm looped in an acoustic jam at both slow and regular speeds so you can practice the licks over and over – enjoy!

Fast Country Pickin Lesson - in this lesson you will learn some fast country picking licks in the style of Albert Lee. These licks would be great to play over the fast country 2-beat rhythms. You will learn the rhythm first and then we move to the lead licks. Learn to use the pick and fingers to play country licks in this style. We start off slow and with practice you can work these licks to a very fast pickn' style.

Lead Lines – in this lesson you will learn to construct lead guitar lines that would work over a fast country 2-beat rhythm. Learn to get interesting sounds by fast arpeggiating of notes as you walk down the guitar neck. This lesson will also incorporate the behind the nut string bending technique that you learned in the previous lessons. Learn more killer behind the nut licks, incorporating them into new lead lines. You will also learn some new chords and chord fingerings that give tonal options as you work chords in with single notes into the lead lines. You will also learn to incorporate a major scale into the lead lines and how to tie it all together.

COUNTRY GUITAR DVD III LESSONS

Hybrid Picking – in this lesson you will learn all about hybrid picking. Here we use the pick and the fingers and learn a big batch of cool country sounding open string licks. Here we play fretted notes and open notes to get a killer sound. You can get super fast at this technique once you get the hang of it. Take this technique and move it to different keys and blast it across all your playing for some new and killer sounds.

Lead Guitar Styles - this section of the DVD is broken into two lessons:

1. Buck Owens, Don Rich styles lead licks lesson – in this lesson you will learn some licks in the styles of Buck Owens and Don Rich. These licks can be played over the standard country rhythm intro. Learn the rhythm and licks in this fun lead guitar lesson.

2. Double stops lesson Allman Brothers sounds – in this lesson we are going Southern Country Rock and you will learn all about double stops and how to make one guitar sound like two guitars. This technique will make you sound like a twin guitar attack in that Allman Brothers style. Learn all kinds of fun major pentatonic licks playing two notes at the same time as well as bending two notes. This lesson will open the floodgates to a ton of killer licks and sounds in this style.

Melody Soloing - this section of the DVD is broken into two lessons:

1. Melody country soloing part one lesson – in this lesson you are going to learn some meat and potatoes melodic country guitar soloing with little chord lead-ins. This lesson is in the Chet Atkins style by sticking real close to the melody. This is a common device utilized with all the Nashville Players of the time. Learn to solo following the chords and the melody for some killer country melodic sounds.

2. Melody country soloing part two lesson – in this lesson we continue with the country melodic lead guitar playing. In this lesson you will learn the rest of the licks and phrases that was started in the previous lesson. Here we finish off the progression with some new licks and melodic ideas.

Hot Country Licks - this section of the DVD is broken into two lessons::

1. Hot country lick lesson – in this lesson you will learn some hot telecaster popping low string funky licks. This is in the styles of Thumbs Carlisle and Roy Buchanan. Learn how to get that real pop sound from using your thumb and first finger to pop the strings. This technique produces a very percussive and cool tone. Learn a cool two-string exercise to get fast at this killer technique.

2. Hot lick played two ways – in this lesson you will learn a cool lead pattern played two ways. You will learn it played straight with a flat pick as well as chicken picked with the fingers. This lesson will help you explore the different tones you can get with the same licks but…… it's all about the way you play it. Learn the lick and the techniques and then get creative to change the sound and feel of your licks to get outside the box.

COUNTRY GUITAR DVD IV LESSONS

Country Pedal Steel Guitar – this DVD is broken into five killer lessons that will teach you all about playing pedal steel licks on the electric guitar. You can really set yourself apart from the pack by learning these super creative, different, and unique techniques in the styles of the great pedal steel players like Ralph Moonie, Pete Drake, John Hughey, Curly Chalker, Weldon Myrick, and many others.
