Here we will continue with your ear training and development. Like we always say, one of THE most important things you can do as a musician is to develop your ear. We want to get you to the point where you can figure out strum patterns and chord colors by ear – just by listening. In this lesson we will teach you more strum patterns to test and develop your ear. Soon you can figure out songs on your own because you are taking the extra time to work on developing your ear. We want to try and wean you off written strum patterns and to start playing more by rhythmic feel and by using your ear. Try to think in terms  of melody and say the melody line out loud – it really helps. Let your ear guide you as you try and figure out the strum that David will be playing. We will train you to think rhythmically – and say the rhythm out loud – if you can say it you can play it!  Just by listening you can figure out the strum pattern – all because you are working on developing your ear. Lesson 123 – MORE EAR TRAINING- figure out chord familiy AND chord names – 13:14 min 

MORE EAR TRAINING and ear development in this lesson on the color of chords. In this module we continue to fine tune your ear to the color of chords. If you have not watched lesson 09 in the beginner section as yet, make sure you do that  before watching this lesson. In this lesson we test you on the different colors that come from the different families of chords. We will use major, minor, dominant 7th, and major 7th chord families. So just listen to the chords as David plays them on the guitar and see if you can determine just by listening if it is a major chord, minor chord, 7th chord or major 7th chord. Then try and find the chord on the guitar – this is the next step in ear development – figure out the chords by ear and finding them on the guitar.  Lesson 122 LEARN more complex STRUM PATTERNS mix quarters, 8ths, and 16ths – 10:01 minutes

In this module you will learn some more complex strum patterns. Now we will take quarter notes, eighth notes, and 16th notes and mix them all together over a four chord progrerssion. For this lesson we will use this progression G – Em7 – Dsus4/F#-Cadd9. David takes you through all the strum patterns slow and there is on screen text so you can visually see the pattern written out on the screen. David tries to wean you off of thinking in terms of ups and downs but rather wants you to play rhythmically and in time. This way your strumming wont sound too sterile or mechanical. Remember, think rhythmicaly, tap your foot, and play in time. Strum along with David and take care……….. and rock on!

Lesson 121 – SLASH CHORDS – what they are and how to play them – 6:44 minutes 

In this lesson we will discuss slash chords. The sometimes can cause a lot of confusion but they are really quite simple. Its a chord name followed by the low bass note. The chord name will be the first letter, and then the 2nd letter, or what is under the slash mark is the low bass note. So C/G is read “C over G” and played as a C major chord with an added low G bass note. These slash chords are very cool and add some real bite to the given chord. Practice these chords in this module and visit the chord library for more slash chord examples. Rock on!

Lesson 119 STRUM PATTERN REVIEW – plus learn some new patterns – 14:53 minutes

In this lesson we will do a strum pattern review. We will go over some older patterns and add a new twist to them as well as review some new patterns. You want to keep adding strum patterns to your guitar arsenal as you move forward in your guitar journey. You also want to be developing you ear so you can eventually figure out patterns and rhythms just by listening – and that is where we want to take you here at next level guitar. YOU CAN DO IT! 

Lesson 118 Long Progression practice – BAR CHORDS TO OPEN CHORDS changing – 11:00 minutes

In this lesson we will use another long progression as a practice tool. Here we will be working on your open to bar chord changing. These changes will probably the be the most challenging you have come across to date, as you have probably have noticed. But keep adding practice routines like this to your practice regimen and you will get them down. Remember to write the progression down and circle the changes that you stumble on. Then practice those changes back and forth 10-20 times daily. You will get it and then the change will be in your pocket forever! Rock on!
