Lesson 116 – DEVELOP YOU EAR more EAR TRAINING on rhythms and strumming -14:21 

One of the most important things you can do as a musician is to develop your ear. We keep stating this over and over to listen to the color of the chords and to listen to what is going on rhythmically with a strum. Soon you can figure out songs on your own because you are taking the extra time to work on developing your ear. We want to try and wean you off written strum patterns and playing more by rhythmic feel and by using your ear. Let your ear guide you as you try and figure out the strum that I will be playing. We will train you to think rhythmically – and say the rhythm out loud – if you can say it you can play it!  Just by listening you can figure out the strum pattern – all because you are working on developing your ear. YOU CAN DO IT! So grab your number two pencils, scantron sheets, and blue books because in this module you will be tested withtwo different strum patterns – its PASS OR FAIL – Rock on good people!

Lesson 115 – Song Suggestions using open & bar  chord chucking – 9:28 minutes 

In this lesson we will make some song suggestions to use as vehicles to continue to elevate your playing to the next level. The songs David suggests to add to your practice regimen utilize bar chord chucking and open chord chucking. These suggestions will really sharpen your rhythm and timing and your techniques on chucking with bar chords and open chords. You want to get very proficient at both chucking techniques as you will be utilizing them all the time in your playing. Have fun and rock on!

Lesson 114 – Learn to chuck combining bar chords and open chords – 19:06 minutes 

In this lesson we will now take several techniques that you have been learning and combine them for a truly magnificent sound. Now that you are working on your bar chord chucking as per the previous lesson, we will now utilize bar chord chucking and open chord chucking together. David gives you some real nice progressions and strum patterns to practice these techniques and get proficient with them. So you really want to be practicing both open chord chucking and bar chord chucking. These will take a little bit to get the hang of – but keep practicing and chipping away at it and you will get it. Lesson 113 Chucking with bar chords – creates so much interest! – 16:57 min

This module will further add to the tools in your musical toolbox by teaching you how to properly execute the CHUCKING technique with bar chords. We show you the technique up close and with several strum patterns. This is a must technique for your guitar arsenal as it adds so much interest, rythem, and richness to your playing. Get good at it and you will be blasting it over all your playing!

Lesson 112 SONG SUGGESTIONS for practice using OPEN CHORD TO BAR CHORD CHANGES – 18:32 min 

In this lesson we make some suggestions of popular song titles that use open chord to bar chord changes. These songs should be right about at the level that you are at now in your guitar journey. Right now in your guitar journey you want to really be concentrating on getting proficient at changing open chords to bar chords. David also gives a little review on proper bar chord changing technique. These bar chord to open chord changes are probably the toughest changes you have come across as yet, but you can do it and you will get them down. It just takes time and practice and these song suggestions are excellent practice vehicles to add to your practice routines.

Lesson 111 Practice exercise STRUMMING 16ths while EMBELLISHING CHORDS – 11:23 

In this practice exercise we are going to tie together many of the principles we have been studying to date all in one exercise. You will practice peppering in suspended and add chords while strumming various 16th note strum patterns. This will also work on your right and left hand separation, adding embellishments, staying in time and strengthening up your rhythm skills. David wants to start to get you thinking about melody with your playing as you lock in the strum. You will also learn some new chords in this lesson  that work real well  to create  melodic interest.

You will also be commingling 16th and 8th note strum patterns. Remember, think rhythmicaly, melodically, tap your foot, and play in time. Take care and rock on!

Lesson 110 – MORE EAR TRAINING – try to get these chord families correct – 21:00 minutes

MORE EAR TRAINING and more testing in this module to keep developing those ears. In this module we try and fine tune your ear to the color of chords. If you have not watched lesson 09 in the beginner section as yet, make sure you do that  before watching this lesson. In this lesson we test you on the different colors that come from the different families of chords. We will use major, minor, dominant 7th, and major 7th chord families. So just listen to the chords as David plays them on the guitar and see if you can determine just by listening if it is a major chord, minor chord, 7th chord or major 7th chord. Lesson 109A Practice exercise – new chords – different key and rhythmic variations – 12:18 min

In this lesson David Taub teaches a great chord changing and rhythm exercise to help get your fundamentals to the next level. Here you will continue your chord changing journey and mix major and minor while working on some new chords and inserting licks into your playing. This lesson is in the key of F# major – kind of a challenging key with 6 sharps in it – so we want to try new and challenging things – so don’t limit yourself to “easier” keys – don’t limit yourself, be creative and use your ears to guide you to what sounds best. This lesson will also teach you some new strum patterns and rhythmic devices. David first goes over the chords used in this lesson so be sure and get these chord voicings down and add them to your chord vocabulary: F#maj7add4 – Badd4 – A#m7 – A#m9 – G#m7 – G#m9. Dave then goes over the progression and variations on embellishments and rhythmic patterns. Add this exercise to your practice regimen and try these changes with other rhythmic feels and patterns. Chip away at this over time a little each day – use it as a warm up and goal to get down solid – enjoy and stay positive – YOU CAN DO IT!

Now you have reached a challenging part in your guitar journey – changing from open chords to bar chords. These are probably the hardest changes that you have come across to date. But you can do it and you will get it with time and practice. In this lesson David continues with proper bar chord changing techniques and gives you many practice changes to work on and add to your practice regimens. Keep that technique pure and proper. You also will get up close shots of the fret hand so you can really see the proper technique up close and personal. Keep practicing the right things and rock on – YOU CAN DO IT!

Bar chords can be very challenging – but keep at it following our structured plan and YOU CAN DO IT! In this module David will teach the proper techniques to change from open chords to bar chords. Open chords to bar chord changes will be the most challenging changes you will come across to this point in your guitar journey. The techniques you will learn in this module will make bar chord changes easier and less challenging – remember to keep that technique PURE.
