05 How to build a MAJOR SCALE in any key – major scale building – guitar Lesson 9:51 minutes

How to build a MAJOR SCALE in any key – major scale building – guitar Lesson 9:51 minutes

This lesson will teach you how to build a major scale. David makes music theory easy and fun and applies it on the guitar. All music theory goes back to the major scale – its so important. We have all heard the major scale, it goes do, re, me, fa, so, la, ti. David plays the major scale in various keys for you on guitar and diagrams the concepts out so you can see them on the white board and then applies the principles on the guitar. To build a major scale in any major key you need to follow a formula – and David will teach you that formula in this lesson. And if you can memorize the formula then you can build a major scale in any key on the guitar. Knowing a little theory goes such a long way and David breaks it down and gets you going in the fastest and most efficient manner possible. ROCK ON!

Learn theses MAJOR SCALES over the entire neck and you know the modes pt 1 – 11:46 minutes

In this lesson David will teach you the six major scales so you will be able to play them over the entire neck. These are absolutely critical for any guitarist to have in his toolbox. Everyone has heard of the major scale – its doe, re, me, fa, so, la, ti, doe. In this module David will also get you thinking about seeing the entire guitar neck as one big scale and not individual boxes – this will get you out of that boxy playing which often sounds very fragmented. David also stresses and explains that if you learn these major scales you will then know the modes of the major scale. The modes of the major scale are just variations of the major scale and David explains how playing in the modes is all based off these major scales. If you want to get to the next level, learning these major scales and playing modally is an absolute must. This is part one of a two-part lesson.

28 LARRY CARLTON inspired lead techniques lesson on approach notes using Pentatonics – 5:00 min

LARRY CARLTON inspired lead techniques lesson on approach notes using Pentatonics – 5:00 min

In this lesson Dave Nassie teaches some Larry Carlton inspired licks and techniques using approach notes in the Pentatonic scales. Dave teaches this in the key of Am and starts off with an A minor Pentatonic Scale. Dave starts off teaching sliding off into notes in the scale. These are all options that give you an outside sound. Remember to use these as grace or passing notes and dont hang on them or land on them but rather cruise through them to add color and spice. Dave then goes string by string in a rhythmical approach to adding in these grace notes. Keep thinking of having rhythm in mind when laying down these licks. Then turn the rhythm around for a lick variation. Dave then shows you how to combine licks and phrase them together using hammer ons and pull offs with the passing tones for interesting rhythmic licks. Use this lesson as a jump off point and put your own spin on them – get creative with these techniques and practice them over jam tracks. Stay creative and enjoy!
