18 Playing lead guitar over Reggae style chords inspired by BOB MARLEY – 11:43 min

Playing lead guitar over Reggae style chords inspired by BOB MARLEY – 11:43 min
In this lesson Ben Zinn teaches how to play lead guitar over a reggae style progression. The great thing for reggae play lead guitar is that you can transplant some lead guitar devices used in blues and rock. The chord progression is Gm – C – Eb – Dm. Ben starts off with the lead guitar approaches by playing a Blues scale but with an added second – so the new hybrid scale has the intervals 1,2,b3,4,b5,5,b7. Notice the blue note, b5, and the added 2nd or 9th. Ben then shows some cool positions to play this scale. Then Ben starts to build some lead example licks built form this new scale. Check out the string bending and feel and how this totally fits the reggae groove. Notice also the slurs and the space between notes. Leave lots of space as you don’t want to try and cram too much into the lead lines. Add this scale and some of these lead devices to your lead playing arsenal. Get creative wit them and vary them to put your own spin on them. Practice over jam tracks and in all keys – enjoy!
