In this lesson Ben Zinn teaches fingerstyle guitar approaches towards some open chords. Ben is using a capo at the 5th fret to get a specific tone but you can capo the guitar at any fret to match your vocal range or sound you are going after – or don’t use a capo at all. Ben then goes over the major and minor open chords that he will use in the lesson. Ben teaches the chords by their shape and not the actual pitch they ring out due to the capo – just keep that in mind. Chord voicings played are C, D minor, E minor, F, G, A minor, and G7 subbed for B diminished chord. Ben then gets into the finger style approaches and arpeggiates the chords – he teaches the finger pattern and plucking techniques and what fingers you want to use. Then Ben adds in some fret hand movements to embellish. Remember that these techniques and ideas can be applied to any chord or progression. YOu want to add these techniques to your playing arsenal and try to vary them and put your own spin on them and try to add these techniques to your playing arsenal – enjoy!
