Lesson 60 More guitar terminology – guitar terms defined and explained – 10:24 minutes

In this lesson we continue defining basic music terms that you will need to understand before moving to future theory modules. It is so important that as a guitarist you can speak and understand the language of music. In this module you will learn the terms and symbols for flat, sharp, and minor. You will also learn what an interval is and how they work on stringed instruments. You will also begin to learn how to read the symbols on chord charts. David also teaches you what an octave is and how they sound in a song example. Rock on good people!

Lesson 59A Practice Exercises – chord changing techniques, new strums and chords – 16:11 min

In this lesson David Taub teaches beginners chord changing techniques, new chords and strums, and rolls it all into a musical sounding exercise. Now this exercise will take a good while to complete so stay positive and chip away at this a little each day. Try going through this long progression every day or a few times a day and you will get a little farther each time and you chord changes will get cleaner and faster. STay positive – this will push you to the next level – YOU CAN DO IT. All these chords are in the key of A minor and lots of chords in this exercise. These are all pretty much open position chords. All through this lesson are tips on chord changing that David has been going over in previous lessons. Keep your technique pure and remember those techniques are critical to ensure good chord changing mechanics. Follow these principles and write down the changes you are struggling with and go through those two at a time every day. Get this long long progression down and easy songs will be like butter – enjoy!

Lesson 59 Learn a new STRUM PATTERN – this one starts with an upstroke – 5:39 min 

In this lesson you will learn a new strum pattern. This one is a little different as we will start it off with an upstroke and continue it with u/d/u/d/d. Its a very cool pattern. Its so important as a guitarist to have a huge arsenal of strum patterns in your strum vocabulary. Eventually you will want to figure out strum patterns and rhythms by ear – this is the level we will take you to at the next level guitar. So after a while try not to think so much about up strums and down strums but rather think rhythmically and play in time. You will get it – keep working on it and you can do it! Rock on!

Lesson 58A – Learn new changeable practice progressions – 15:12 min

In this lesson you will learn some new chord progressions based off 4 chords. YOu will also learn some new strum patterns as well as some practice to prepare for the coming “F” chord. The “F” chord will be the most challenging chord to play that you have learned so far – so this lesson will get you prepared for that chord. These are fun progressions that will use basic open position chords – Dm, Fmaj7, Em, and G – enjoy! 

Lesson 58 Learn to play an F CHORD and Fmaj7 – precursor to bar chords 6:51 

In this lesson we will start pecking away at the hardest chord that you have learned up to this point – the F major chord. But with a little practice and the tips in this lesson you will get it and soon be incorporating it into your songs and progressions. Add the F chord to your practice routine and it is going to be an evolution that will take some time, so chip a little away at it each day. David will also teach you an F major 7th, or Fmaj7 chord to get your hand ready for the full F chord. YOu WILL GET IT – stick with it and rock on!

Lesson 57A Prep to play that F chord with these fun progressions & techniques  – 18:42 min

In this lesson David Taub lays down the prep foundation for playing that challenging F chord. The F chord is the most challenging chord that you will be learning at this point in your guitar journey. But David will make the transition to it easy and fun with these exercises and techniques. He makes it musical by teaching some progressions with some new chords that will work out the fret fingers and get them ready to start chipping away at that challenging F chord. So take these slow at first and work the changes back and forth to get proficient at them. This lesson will take a lot of the frustration out of learning that F chord. Lesson 57 Learn a NEW STRUM PATTERN – plus playing tips with TIM – 9:35 min 

In this lesson Tim Gilberg will take you through a new strum pattern – you can do it! Tim breaks the pattern down and teaches you the strum both slow and regular speed. On screen text makes it easy so you will see the pattern written on the screen. Play along with Tim as he uses the strum in an easy four chord progression. Lesson 56 Practice Routine 4 – 4:16 minutes 

This lesson will let you know where you should be at by now in your guitar training and what you should be practicing to date. These practice routines will keep moving you up the staircase of learning guitar. David also reviews techniques in this module and gets you primed for things to come. Get the nine open chords down cold, work on muting that low E string with your thumb. You also want to continue working on chord change mechanics and technique using shared fingers and clustering. You also want to incorporate songs into your practice regimens and use them as vehicles to practice your strumming, rhythm, timing, and chord changing. Remember, always practice the right things according to the structured plan that we are laying out here at next level guitar.

Lesson 55A How to practice challenging changes and get better at them fast – 5:35 min

In this lesson David discusses how to make chord changing easier – how to practice changes – how to look at changes and follow all the proper techniques that you have been working on to date. David also discusses the importance of practicing chord change mechanics and how to get those tough changes nailed down solid. Stay positive and make a list of all the changes you are struggling with and make sure and practice those changes every day back and forth – rock oN!

Lesson 55 PRACTICE using LONG PROGRESSION I – chord changing & strum practice 14:32 

In this lesson you will learn how to incorporate long progression work into your practice regimens. These exercises will really help with your chord changing, strumming, rhythm, and timing. These long progressions are excellent practice tools that will really push your playing to the next level. Incorporate these into your practice regimens and note in your practice logs what changes need work. You will see more of these long progressions that get more challenging as your chord changing gets more proficient. Here we put lots of chord changes together in a long string so it really works your ryhthm and chord changing techniques. On screen text shows you the long string of chords and you will want to write them down in your practice log. David goes over the string of chords and then different ways to use the long progression to practice. You want to get good at the progression with quester notes, eight notes, strum patterns, varying the measure length, and more.
