57 Gypsy jazz soloing lesson on lead playing over the E7 chord – 12:39 min

Gypsy jazz soloing lesson on lead playing over the E7 chord – 12:39 min

In this lesson Jeff Ross teaches some gypsy jazz soloing devices and techniques when playing over a dominant E7 chord. In previous lessons you learned soloing over the Am and Dm chords when you were in minor key, but here we are more in a major key vibe. So often in Gypsy Jazz you will find the dominant 7th chord, so you need some improv skills to play over that change. So in this lesson we have a I-II-V progression or Dmaj – E7 – A7. Jeff concentrates here on licks over the E7 chord (II chord). But this can be played over dominant chords whether in minor or major key – you are playing over that E7 chord treating it as a separate event. So learn this in all keys and try it over dominant chords in other progressions. Put your own spin on it, change up the notes and get creative with it – have fun and keep on rocking!
