Jazz lesson playing techniques outside the key in the style of CHICK COREA – 8:55 min
In this lesson Mike Sculli teaches some soloing techniques inspired by Chick Corea, Pat Martino, John Coltrane, and Pat Methany. This lesson focus on playing outside the key for some different tones and sounds. Mike will be using the Pentatonic scale for these examples. This lesson is in the key of C and playing a 2 5 1 progression. Mike shows the scales that he will play and discusses which scales are used over which chords. Mike explains the theory behind playing certain scales over each chord and why they work. Then he takes it outside by moving up half steps over the dominant chord which gives us all the altered tones which work over the dominant chord. Check out the lesson and try to go outside for some cool unexpected sounds.
