JOE PASS inspired Jazz guitar rhythms lesson on chord comping and melodic bass lines – 6:55 min
In this lesson Mike teaches some fun JOE PASS inspired Jazz guitar rhythm chord comping. Mike teaches chord comping with melodic bass line construction ideas. First Mike goes over the chords he will be using in the lesson. We are in the key of C major and the chords are a Cmaj9 the I chord, A7#5, D7#9, G7#5. This is a I-VI-II-V progression that is very common in jazz. Mike teaches about the chord substitution or comping to make the chords dominant 7ths. Then Mike gets into teaching construction of the bass lines. THis way you just wont be strumming chords but running cool bass lines along with teh chords. Try these concepts and put your own spin on them – try to work up some other cool bass lines to use over this progression and try in different keys – enjoy!
