In this lesson Dave Nassie teaches some killer shred rock guitar licks and techniques in the style of Rusty Cooly.  dave starts by taking an A minor Pentatonic scale and plays it three notes per string. This device has some wide interval stretches so be sure and be well warmed up and limber before taking these on. Then there is a huge position shift as you ascend up the guitar neck. This sprots some killer pentatonic sounds that you may not be used to – get outside the box and experiment wit these new techniques and devices. In this lesson Dave starts off with a C major triad and starts string skipping and fret tapping dividing the arpeggio between the left and right hands. Notice the sequence Dave utilizes with both his fret fingerings and tapping sequences. These are more advanced devices so be sure and give them some time to sink into your fingers. Advanced hybrid picking guitar lesson Ritchie Kotzen inspired lick ideas – 5:37 min

In this lesson Dave Nassie teaches some advanced hybrid picking techniques in the style of Ritchie Kotzen. Dave teaches these techniques utilizing the E minor pentatonic scale and he first goes over the scale shapes he utilizes throughout the lesson. Dave then gets into the hybrid picking using his middle finger on his pick hand to play some of the notes in addition to using the pick. When Dave says “pluck” you want to use the middle finger on your pick hand to grab the string and pluck it to sound the note. The other notes will be played with the pick or hammered on or pulled off. Dave gets into some cool hybrid picking licks that you can move around the G major scale and then Dave gets into some cool arpeggio licks in B minor using this hybrid technique. Please remember that these are advanced techniques and will take some time and work to get these techniques up to these speeds – be sure to practice these slow at first and get them clean and work up the speed over time – and have fun with them!

Soloing techniques in the Guthrie Govan style – 7:55 min

This is just one small aspect of his playing and you can learn it here and then put your own spin on it and add it to your playing arsenal. This lesson is all about wide stretching and legato technique. Dave starts by teaching the shapes for three note per string A minor pentatonic scales. Make note of the techniques Dave uses to mute the strings so you dont get any unwanted string noise when sliding around the neck. This is some very fast legato playing so be sure and take these examples slow at first and get them super clean and build up the speed slowly over time – enjoy and rock on!
