In this lesson Dave Nassie teaches some lick ideas and lick techniques inspired by Alan Holdsworth. This lesson focuses on the fret hand and falls heavy n the legato style. In this lesson Dave Nassie teaches some fun exercises taking your pull offs to a whole other level. This exercises will strengthen the fret hand as well as build speed and dexterity. Dave works out of the A Mixolydian mode for this lesson. Dave starts with a seven note pattern and teaches the techniques so the motions are executed proficiently. Make sure you hear each note cleanly and try these patterns in other scale shapes as they will work and you will find they make great licks also! Dave takes you through the scale using these techniques and concentrates on keeping that pinky close to the fretboard and under control at all times. Dave also works on the fingerings and teaches what he found to be the easiest and most efficient – stay consistent with your fingerings. Practice these slow and work up the speed over time. Here Dave teaches a combination of sweep arpeggio shapes and how to mix them in with pentatonic licks and blues phrases. Dave teaches how to add in licks to the sweeps ad how to phrase them together into a fluid solo. Dave starts in the key of A minor and uses an A minor arpeggio as an example. Dave then teaches a few A minor Pentatonic scale shapes that he will use to combine in with the arpeggio.
