68 Add classical sounding pedal licks to your rock soloing – 6:00 min

Add classical sounding pedal licks to your rock soloing – 6:00 min

In this lesson Dave Nassie teaches how to add some classical sounding licks to your rock guitar solos.  This classically inspired pedal tone lick in the key of G that will really help your alternate picking. Pedal licks are common in classical music and a pedal lick has a repeating note used for melody that you keep going back to. Play these licks slow at first as the fingering can be tricky. Work up the speed over time and chip away at it. These pedal melodies are a lot of fun and can add that classical flair to your solos. Experiment with them and try them with different scales and insert them into your playing – enjoy!

Rock soloing – developing melody inspired by JEFF BECK – 11:22 min

In this lesson Ben Zinn teaches melodic rock soloing in the style of Jeff Beck. Ben first teaches the chord progression that he is playing over. Be sure and lay the progression down so you have a vehicle to practice these lead techniques. This progression suggest a D Natural Minor Scale until the end of the solo where then you will learn some major scale playing over the end. Ben teaches some positions for Natural Minor, also known as the Aeolian mode, as well as some Pentatonic positions. The basic idea is to stick to a melody line but add techniques to enhance the melody using bending, sliding, vibrato, and other tricks to help develop the melody line along. Try sticking close to the melody line and vary just a little here and there – give this approach to some other progressions and build melody lines – stay creative!
