Add thickness to you tone with SUSPENDED bar chords & INVERSIONS – 10:39 min
In this lesson you will learn the joys of the suspended 2nd bar chord. It will really thicken up your sound – especially if you add a low bass note making it an inverted suspended chord. Remember that a suspended chord is not either major or minor as it suspends the 3rd – so there is no clash with a major or minor 3rd. So suspended chords, especially the sus2 and sus4, work well with both major and minor chords. Have fun and add these chords to your progressions and changes.

In this lesson you can tune to David’s guitar which is tuned to standard tuning or A440. Strings low to high are tuned E,A,D,G,B,E. David also gives you some tips on tuning your guitar to ensure that your guitar both is in tune, and then will stay in tune. In this lesson you will learn how chords are constructed and why it is so important. You will also learn about the major scale and intervals and chord formulas. At this point in your guitar journey you should be familiar with quite a few bar chords off the 6th string and 5th string roots. You learned these late in the BEGINNER LESSONS section of the site. You should also be working on or fairly proficient and changing bar chords and going from open chords to bar chords and bar chords to open chords. If you are not familiar with these priniciples then I suggest you visit those lessons in the beginner lessons section.
As a guitarist it is so critical that you keep expanding your chordal knowledge and chord vocabulary. You will want to continue to learn new chords and practice them in your practice regimens and songs. In this lesson we will do a review of some of the most common bar chords off the 5th and 6th string roots. You will also learn some new ones. Practice these chords and getgood atchanging them as you will see them all the time.
