188 Lesson 179 Fingerstyle strumming and rhythm patterns – 6:47 min

Lesson 179 Fingerstyle strumming and rhythm patterns – 6:47 min

In this lesson Ben Zinn teaches some easy and fun strumming exercises using your fingers. Ben teaches this lesson on acoustic guitar but you can utilize these techniques on acoustic or electric guitar. This is all about fingerstyle strumming and rhythm patterns. This lesson kind of bridges the gap between traditional pick strumming and adapting it for this fingerstyle strumming. Ben first breaks down the progression he utilizes and goes over the chords – the progression is: C – E7 – Am – Am/G –  F – C – A7 – Dm – G – C – Ben then gets into the rhythm of playing this progression using 8th notes and gets into the finger strumming technique. This techniques creates some separation within the chords for some variation and a little different sound. Practice these techniques and rhythms with other chords and progressions and add these techniques to your playing arsenal – enjoy!

183 Lesson 174 Practice routine LONG PROGRESSION with new chords, bar chords, and embellishments – 13:09 min

Lesson 174 Practice routine LONG PROGRESSION with new chords, bar chords, and embellishments – 13:09 min
In this lesson David Taub teaches a cool practice routine to help work on your rhythm and timing, chord changing, embellishing chords, and changing strum patterns from measure to measure. This routine will push you to the next level as it will challenge your rhythm playing if you are not familiar with changing strum patterns and playing changes from open to bar chords. So this lesson will also help you with your bar chord playing. Here David makes this lesson musical and fun by taking this exercise and making it into a musical progression. Start this off slow and be sure to get the changes in time slow – then work up the speed and keep bumping up the complexity of the strum patterns. Dont worry if this takes a while to get down – it may take a month or two to master this routine – no worries – just chip away at it a little each day and soon you will be blowing through the changes – be patient and stay positive!
