In this lesson Dave Nassie teaches a songwriting approach in the style of lesson with use of some basic chords. Here you will also learn some bluesy licks and rhythms in the acoustic style of Eric Clapton. Dave goes over several variations of each chord as you will want to vary the chords for maximum effect. Dave goes over many new voicings and how to make them sound cool. Many of these embellishments can be made by slight finger movements – easy and fun. Learn a new way to play an “F” chord. This lesson will get you in the songwriting mindset and how to put chords together that sound cool. Try some of these techniques and devices with chords and try to write a song or a cool progression. Try strumming – try arpeggiating – they key is to keep experimenting and having fun!

Dave uses simple chords like E major – but he teaches you how to embellish the chords and keep the open strings ringing out to create a cool melody and cool tone. Take these techniques and devices and use them with your other chord voicings and get creative with them. Try adding some licks of your own and put these chords in different order to help create some new sounds.
